Kevin Love NBA All Star Forward/Center is getting no love on the USA Men’s Basketball Team. He’s played a total of 60 minutes in 5 exhibition games for the Olympic team. What’s going on with him, because he’s not looking very All Star? On a team decked out with future hall of famers, all NBA players, champions, and more productive players: i.e., Anthony Davis just drafted a month ago rookie. There isn’t much playing time you can get, ahead of these guys. It doesn’t help when you continue to get in foul trouble so quickly either. I’m about to go in on Mr. Love’s pour play, try and figure out what’s going o with him.
First off why Mr. Love made the team is pretty self evident. He’s a two time NBA All Star, he averages a double- double with 26 points and 13 rebounds, he lead the NBA in rebounds this season. Team USA is short on big men aka BIGS, Kevin Love is 6’11 right after Tyson Chandler at 7’1. He also has a Gold Medal from the 2010 World Basketball Championship. He seems like the perfect addition, especially after Blake Griffin went down with an injury. He can even shoot 3 pointers and jumpers at a high percentage.
You would think Love would fit in perfect and not only learn and get better, but BALL on some of these other countries. Love has had the hardest time in practice against his teammates. He performs drills well and works just as hard as the rest of the team if not harder. In these exhibition games I just don’t see where all his All- Star power goes, he springs a leak and it runs out the bottom of his shoes. He even winded up with a cut on his eyebrow from a scrimmage game. Come on SON!!
So I watch all the exhibition games and Love sucked in all of them. He looks like a high school player out there against everyone. His lack of play even messes up the rhythm of the squad that comes in for the starters. He’s not defending at all, and if he does he gets a silly clear foul. With the Fiba rules fouls are hard to come by, the foul guidelines are so laxed, what’s your issue. It can’t be a lack of experience; he’s a played against the best players in the world before!! Love’s been on a World Championship Gold Team, All Star teams and four years in the NBA that’s enough experience for anyone.
Then I thought well maybe his confidence is low and he feels sensitive. He does play with a bunch of players, wayyyy better than him: Kobe, Lebron, Melo, CP3, Deron, Westbrook, and Durant, pretty much everyone else. I could see being a little insecure, but not to the point where I don’t go out and BALL. The games that count you should be going out and Balling against the other teams. Not worried about your game vs. your teammates, they’re not the opponent.
2nd I thought well, if those things are true, why is Anthony Davis 1st overall pick in the 2011-2012 draft, hasn’t played one official NBA GAME. Going out in games giving quality minutes, swatting balls, dunking, rebounding, and alley-opping and showing he’s a threat both on offense and defense against these other teams. I thought the rookie would be a liability on the team, but Love is the one, a veteran!!
3rd I’m not racist at all, but I can see certain situations where race could possibly play a role. Kevin Love is the only white player on this team and there’s always been the line. You know the line, “White Man Can’t Jump!!” Maybe, were seeing his limit against the best players in the world. It’s coming down to the wire and the exhibition games are over, Love has to play better.
Finally, if I was Coach K, I’d grab Love by the jersey. Tell him to calm down and just play his game. What I mean is play your form of basketball Love with no regrets, leave it out there on the court. Go out there and loosen up, as Chris Duncan would say, “You can’t play well with the TIGHT CHEEKS!!” Love don’t sweat the small stuff; do what you can to help this team. That’s all that counts, helping this team win GOLD!!
